THU supplies 5,300 m² of metal ceiling for MADRING Circuit, Madrid’s new urban Formula 1 circuit

The project incorporates three THU metal ceiling solutions —Bandeja Murano, Lama Roma and Sicilia Clip-In— and has required production and supply planning tailored to the venue’s commissioning schedule. THU Ceiling Solutions has supplied and installed approximately 5,300 m² of metal ceiling at MADRING Circuit, Madrid’s new urban Formula 1 circuit, which hosts the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix from 11 to 13 September.

The work has been distributed across different areas of the venue and has required the supply and installation to be completed within the deadlines set for the commissioning of the facilities, with no room for extensions.

The bulk of the surface area corresponds to the interior spaces, where approximately
4,000 m² of Bandeja Murano have been installed, distributed between two pavilions. The project is completed with around 1,000 m² of Lama Roma on the outdoor canopies and approximately 300 m² of Bandeja Sicilia Clip-In in common areas and meeting rooms.

A solution adapted to each space

In the interior spaces, the Murano tiles have been installed resting directly on DP50 main runners. This configuration has made it possible to use the same suspension grid layout in both pavilions, despite their different geometries, while maintaining a continuous and uniform reading of the ceiling.

As Dani García, THU Area Sales Manager, explains, the choice of Murano was based on both aesthetic and functional criteria: “The choice was based on the aesthetics and on the ability of the Murano tile to adapt to the spaces”.

The solution adopted also responds to one of the main technical challenges of the project: the high density of services housed in the plenum. The system allows quick access to the technical services to be maintained and makes assembly and access operations easier.

“It allows us to adapt to the different areas and, at the same time, to install and access the rest of the technical services quickly and easily”, says García.

On the outdoor canopies, Lama Roma has been used, while Sicilia Clip-In has been chosen for the common areas and meeting rooms, thus completing a solution adapted to the characteristics and needs of each area of the circuit.

Three systems, one project

The Bandeja Murano is available in widths of 300 and 400 mm and in variable lengths of up to 2.5 metres. The Lama Roma, used on the canopies, has effective widths of 200 and 300 mm and is self-supporting by means of clips, and can reach lengths of up to 6 metres with an auxiliary rail.

For its part, the Bandeja Sicilia Clip-In includes a hinged version that provides access to the plenum without having to remove the tile completely, making maintenance of the services easier.

All three systems have a Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification, in accordance with standard UNE-EN 13501-1:2019.

Local manufacturing to meet a critical schedule

One of the main constraints of the project was the supply lead time. THU’s manufacturing in Valencia made it possible to reorganise production planning and prioritise the order to fit the construction schedule.

“The whole factory threw itself into handling this project quickly”, says García.

Coordination between THU, the construction management and the project supervision team was another of the key factors in meeting the deadlines. This collaboration made it possible to assess and propose solutions that, in addition to responding to the initial design, made installation easier and optimised execution times.

“Both the construction management and the project supervision team, in continuous coordination with us, understood our suggestions regarding the ceiling models that were most suitable, functional and quick to install, and that best matched their initial design”, he adds.

For THU, the ability to adapt to the needs of each project is an essential part of its value proposition.

“The clients we work with are aware of this absolute closeness, and of our ability to adapt to a supply schedule according to the needs of the projects, as well as to resolve any setbacks that may arise during execution with valid alternatives or suggestions”, concludes García.

THU Ceiling Solutions manufactures metal ceilings in Valencia and distributes its solutions on the national and international markets, offering systems adapted to the technical and aesthetic needs of each project.
